Extra Boost
WHAT IS A BOOSTER?
central vacuum system. Typically they are used in large
homes where one system is insufficient or installations
which have not been properly ‘zoned’ for individual systems.
If a home is so large that increased power is needed, it is
ALWAYS recommended to install multiple central vacuums
as independent systems (zones) just like you would a
typical heating or air conditioning system. This provides the
best overall performance and reliability!
That said, if you are in a situation where an installation has
not been ‘zoned’ and need a performance increase, you can
turn any central vacuum system (with the exception of
Flow-Thru motor types) into a booster unit following the
instructions shown to the right.
A booster system when installed in ‘Series’ (when the
second motor pulls from the exhaust of the first motor), will
effectively increase suction performance approximately 70%
depending on the system.
Even though an ‘Air Parallel’ installation nearly doubles
CFM performance a ‘Series’ installation boosts suction and
offers the best end of hose performance because it is able
to overcome the airflow restrictions due to higher suction.
Gains in suction performance due to a ‘series’ installation
increase end of hose performance whereas ‘parallel’ airflow
gains are negated due to airflow restrictions in the plumbing
and any performance gain is significantly reduced. This is
why a ‘Parallel’ installation would not be recommended and
is not shown.
Extra Storage
WHAT IS A SEPARATOR?
it reaches the main unit and filling up the bag or if the bag is
not being used, the dirt canister.
For instance, a separator might be used in a wood shop
where the separator could sift most of the heavier wood
debris while the main unit would collect fine wood shavings.
Similarly, a separator could be used in a veterinarian clinic
where they groom animals or a hair salon to sift out most
debris before reaching the main unit. And since a separator
doesn’t have a motor, it is completely quiet allowing the
separator to be placed conveniently for frequent emptying
without the noise of the main power unit.
Note: A separator is not designed to be used with liquids.

Picture a central vacuum system as though it were a high
performance sports car. Filtration protects the motor from
dust, exhaust systems dampen the sound level and the
suspension, brakes and tires chosen determine the
vehicle’s overall handling and ride performance.
The same is true with your central vacuum system. The
motor is the engine which powers the system but it is the
accessories which contribute to satisfaction and overall
cleaning performance. It would be like choosing high
performance tires versus regular all season tires for
We cannot stress enough the importance of choosing top
quality accessories and how it will affect the cleaning
performance and overall satisfaction with your central
vacuum system!
Depending on the design of the installation, the necessary accessories (pipes, elbows, bifurcations, sockets) will be chosen.
